WHY, WHEN AND HOW DID YOU START TILLY THOMAS LUX?

I began Tilly Thomas Lux almost 8 years ago. I have a degree in fashion design and then I trained and worked as a costume jewellery designer for 8 years. The first piece I made for a friend for her wedding was a headpiece based around her Grandma's vintage brooch. This was truly a light bulb moment for me, something new made from something old that was sentimental. To see my first ever piece dazzling down the aisle was a special moment and made me think oh how wonderful this would be as a job.

CAN YOU TELL US WHAT A TYPICAL WORK WEEK MIGHT LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

My weeks are jam packed as I am also a mum,so I juggle all my work around my toddler. My weeks consist of designing using my component library and Swarovski crystals, ( I’m currently designing a new collection), design packs for orders to send to my UK makers, packing orders, socials, Instagram, reels, stone setting, virtual and in person appointments with brides. I’m sure there is more!

WHAT'S YOUR APPROACH TO DESIGNING BESPOKE PIECES FOR YOUR BRIDE? 

Usually this begins with an in-person or virtual appointment where I get to know the bride and all about the wedding. I never get bored of seeing the engagement ring and hearing all about the day-to-be. We discuss shapes, colours and themes, for example, leaves, stars, deco. I then design a flat layout using the components that will actually be in the design, my brides really are involved every step of the way, it’s a happy experience for sure.

WHAT'S THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER AND WHY?

There are so many memorable moments of my career so far, my pieces have been worn by many celebrities. But I would say in all honesty that to see so many brides all over the world wearing the pieces that I have designed and made all in the UK makes me feel so proud. I have met so many amazing brides over the years and many of them have become friends .

WHAT'S ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? 

To travel more, since covid we haven’t traveled like we used to and this usually gets me so inspired for my collections. Obviously Beyoncé wearing one of my creations is definitely on my vision boards!
